Choosing a screen protector
The screen is the part of a handheld that ages worst, and it is the cheapest part to protect. There are three sensible options and they suit different people.
9H tempered glass
The default recommendation. It resists the key-and-coin scratches that come from carrying a console loose, and it feels like the bare screen under your thumb.
Matte anti-glare film
Trades a little sharpness for far less reflection. Worth it if you play outdoors or under bright overhead light.
Privacy film
Narrows the viewing angle so the screen is unreadable from the side. Niche, but useful on a commute.
Before you buy
- Buy for the exact screen size — 3.5-inch and 4.0-inch protectors are not interchangeable.
- Multi-packs are worth it: the first application rarely goes perfectly.
- Clean the screen and work in a low-dust room; trapped dust causes most bubbles.
