How to Add Games to the R36 Ultra (Simple & Legal)

The R36 Ultra reads game files from its microSD card, organized in system folders. Adding your own collection takes about ten minutes. One ground rule first: use game files and BIOS files you legally own — backups of your own cartridges and discs.

What you need

  • Your R36 Ultra’s microSD card (power off fully before removing it)
  • A computer with an SD card reader (USB readers cost a few dollars)
  • Your own game files

Step 1 — Open the card on your computer

Insert the card and open it in your file manager. You’ll see folders named for game systems (names vary slightly by firmware batch). That structure is the whole system: right file, right folder.

Step 2 — Copy files into the matching system folder

Drag your files into the folder matching their system. Keep file names simple (letters, numbers, dashes). If a system needs BIOS files, they go in the dedicated bios folder — the console’s documentation lists exact expected names.

Step 3 — Eject safely, reinsert, rescan

Always use your computer’s “safely remove” option — pulling the card mid-write corrupts files. Reinsert into the powered-off console, boot, and refresh/rescan the game list from the menu if new titles don’t appear automatically.

If a game doesn’t show up

  • Wrong folder is the #1 cause — double-check the system match.
  • Unsupported file format for that system — check the format list in your documentation.
  • Compressed archives sometimes need extracting first.

More fixes in the troubleshooting guide.

Pro habit: back up after every big addition

Once your library is set up the way you like, image or copy the card to your computer — the SD card guide shows the safest workflow.
